China Reina
What is my grandma’s Noritake china (Reina Pattern) set for 12 worth?
Pattern #6540 and 6540q. I can find circa 19–’s on every other pattern but not this one; even Noritake’s official site has no mention of “Reina” past or present? I’ve been on Replacements.com, but I would like something closer to an appraisal with the history for the entire set.
I can’t answer your question. However, I can make some educated suggestions.
1. Get in touch with Replacements.com and talk to a human. They have information that is not on the web site (I have taken pieces of china to the company in order to get an ID, and you can also send photos to them).
2. If the china was not for sale in your country under the name that’s printed on it, it might be listed under a different name or sold only in a different country. I have a set of Noritake china that was bought in Japan. For years, it was not listed in this country (USA). Replacements Ltd. finally started getting pieces in, mostly from military people who bought it and brought it back (like I did).
Update: Your pattern is listed at Replacements Ltd. http://www.replacements.com/webquote/N__REI.htm . Generally, they will pay about half what they can sell the piece for, if they have actual sales for that pattern. You might be able to find someone else who wants to buy the china in a straight sale. The general principle is that it’s worth what a willing seller will take and what a willing buyer will pay.
The good news is that Replacements Ltd. apparently does have buyers for your pattern. I have a china pattern, set for 12 with 1 piece missing, that is so obscure that they can’t get my one missing piece and they won’t buy what I do have. There are seven other people in the US looking to buy, sell, or trade the same set and the chances of us finding each other are very small.
